Everyone!
why do you think the mt gox guys keep stalling for two days now?It takes time to clear out the whole site. They already postponed several times now. People get worn out. tell us now that it the claim site will be up as soon as possible instead of giving an actual deadline just gives them more time to disappear. Which is the only smart move (not nice but smart). Whatever else they do will cause a dissaster for them - either they get sued by the ones who profited from the crash because the rollback nullifies their profits OR from the people who lost money during the crash. Each way they're screwed for the next couple of YEARS. ALTERNATIVE: grab as much as you can (which should be quite something for two bachelors considering the money which went into the market the last few months) and drink cocktails in Rio with a nice tanned brasilena. If you were around 30, single and had a shitload of money. Which one would you choose?

@Asuka: I was reading your comments and mate sorry but you're so dump (no ofensse).
In one of the your comments you said "you are impatient".
Do you have a mind? Of course will be impatient, people has money there.

I hope people realize that @elements is just trying to make people panic so they sell their Bitcoin for cheap. He sounds like a lot of trolls currently on the forums that never had anything constructive to say other than "Bitcoin is fake money and is a failure, run run run." It's too bad people like Todd Morrill
Jun-21 2011 21:34.
Rassah
It's too bad people like Todd Morrill fell for it and sold, likely at a huge loss. Calm down. There's nothing wrong with Bitcoin itself. Also, the MtGox guys gave out their real names and faces, and the possible $100,000 to $500,000 that they made off their business is nowhere near enough for two 30-somethings to retire anywhere (i.e. elements is just a FUD troll)

@ BitchCoin Expres:
BitCoin is not terminated you fool. Trade hill is one of many sites that had logins and passes synonymous with those who created accounts there.
They're just pissing in their pants, as they should be. As for Mt. Gox, after watching the silly webcast, being bullshitted back and forth, I can't wait till you fools open this site up.
We're all going to withdraw immediatey, and Mt. Gox is now known as NOT a safe place to conduct ANY business. Don't deduct that just because it's an alternate currency...you can still get robbed.
I do not believe anything Mark says, anything Mt. Gox says, and no longer trust anything having to do with this site. I'm sure many users feel this way. Just bring the site back up so we can get our money out.
You're jerking off a huge bunch of users who will eventually find a way to sue your ass, and your little bitcoin fortune will go bye bye.

@elements I would far rather them give very few updates and actually work on the problem rather than many updates and do nothing.... They did their best to keep the calm and probably thought the solution was easier than it was thus pushed the estimated completion time. I would far rather them take their time to make it right before opening things up to possible more loss. And no one is going to be sued because of the rollback, same crap happens in other markets all the time. Your clearly mad because you thought you were going to make it big on a false market drop, and now your not. In a disaster situation such as this, any completion time is only an estimate and can vary greatly especially when unforseen complications come up. And of course they can't tell you EVERYTHING their doing, if they did that would expose them to other possible attacks or intrusions. Bitcoin is a new currency and should be treated as such and their is a much greater potential for loss. People putting their money into bitcoin need to understand that they are going into uncharted waters throught with unknown dangers. Mtgox is not a bank either so storing massive amounts of bitcoin there is foolish. You know, I probably have lost a good chunk of hard earned cash, not mined bitcoin, that I put into MtGox but I also understand that there was a higher risk and I took that risk. elements, If you can't accept the risk of bitcoin, perhaps you should move to something more stable like forex or the stock market......

- @elements: "People with a technical background know exactly how much it takes to do certain things."
People with actual technical backgrounds know that it's next to impossible to predict how long it takes to resolve IT issues.
@elements: "How do you expect customers who potentially lost their whole savings at mt gox (which I didn't) to react?" So, here you basically admit that you're just spreading fear, and have nothing to lose yourself (but plenty to gain from people panicking and selling out). Yes, I've read your forum posts. Your "they're running to Brazil with your money!" theory isn't remotely amusing. Mtgox people were live on the phone on sunday night, they were live on video chat last night explaining the situation, and MagicalTux posts frequently on the forums and replies on IRC. Where do you get the idea that "THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER?" As I said, FUD.

So Mt.Gox got hosed and is being recreated from scratch. Meanwhile, posers are crying about running to the hills, never doing business here again, moving to another trading source. Guess which exchange will be more secure from having a rewrite in the face of disaster? Anyone care to make a guess as to which exchange will get hacked next? With the Internet and high profile sites, it's not a matter if you will get hacked, it's when. Then, the same trolls will be out bemoaning the demise of bitcoin trading.
I for one, will keep trading with Mt.Gox because it promises to be more secure than any other exchange, but damn, I'm antsy to see how close my account is to the way I left it.

Here's another one staying in Mt. Gox.
As Jeff says, this will be one of, if not the safest places to trade in Bitcoins...

Oh no, bitcoins are doomed, were all going to loose a shit ton of money, START PANICKING, then sell all of your bitcoins (to me ... for pennies ... lol .. or you can just donate them to me and skip the sale). I hope mtgox comes back, makes their security better and possibly lowers the transaction fees for trading as a kind gesture for the downtime. If things dont go back to normal, well shit happens nothing you can really do about it now. Investing/Trading is kind of like gambling, you could loose it all at any given moment anyways.

I'll definitely stay with Mt. Gox, but will be a bit more careful about how much BTC is held for lenghthy periods of time within any trade site. I realy did not have much held in Mt Gox until the night of the problems when I just so happened to bring in some cash to trade with. Bad luck on this one I say. On a note to Mt. Gox, you may want to start legal proceedings against your auditors as such a system breach is not acceptable in a job where you deal with sensitive data all the time.

- @all guys i had a lot of mails with mark during the last hours - i was telling him the consequences what could possibly happen. last hour i was discussing the scenario wih our lawyers which have a sub in tokyo as well. i can tell you the reverse of the trades seems to be done because he confirmed my cash and even i received confirmation emails day before yesterday the cash side is not bokked. we are deciding now what to do. i had orders placed 2 weeks before because i felt that a crash wold be possible so i bought at 12 10 9 7 5 3 2 1
though i got confirmation by mtgox and they acting as a third party only for me he trades were legal. mark doenst agree. so give them a little credit and everybody has to decide to go for class action or whatever but remember its japan! if i were the guy kevin with 252k bct i surely would do so

@CBH (and others) I also got the message "The new password is not secure enough. Security tips include using special characters, make the password longer, etc..." although my new password is VERY complex (over 25 chars, lowercase, uppercase, numbers & specials).
After some trial and error it seemed to require multiple different specials, or maybe some special chars are not accepted (or my typing is very bad).
However, i did manage to find a complex password that was accepted. My old password (also very complex and long) was also accepted (without any problems). I think i successfully got through the claim procedure.
So, please dont panic. The password conditions may be somewhat overly strict, but it does work.

Recovery seems to have worked for me.
From the looks of it I imagine it will take a very long time for Mt. Gox to sort all of this out. They have to manually verify 60,000 accounts it seems. Those of you having trouble, just wait for the mountain of claims to start going through and I'm sure Mt. Gox will help you. Filing lawsuits certainly will only give them more to deal with, reducing the amount of time they have to work on claims.

To all those in a panic: You don't need Mt. Gox *or* TradeHill. Not yet, at least. If you honestly believe in Bitoins, then you need to understand this is a marathon, not a race. Don't be in a hurry to cash out now. If you have coins, hold on to them. If you want coins, join a mining pool. These trade sites will get sorted out, eventually. No one knows if Bitcoins will be worth it in the end, so you shouldn't worry if things are a little crazy for a few days.

If anything got touched, it was after the service went down which would make no sense.
